And that is the questions 🙂
Like a lot of other people around the world in 2020 we had a lot of time on our hands after our 9-5. While browsing TikTok at 2 am and getting hit by this amazing entrepreneurs showing me how they made millions from their Dropshipping business I said, why not.
I woke up next morning, it was a Saturday so I had the whole day ahead of me. I was hyped, mostly because I already work in Marketing, I know all there is to know about advertising, SEO, Social Selling and all that tasks that I already did over and over again.
So I started my research:
- Best platform to build my website (15%)
- Best partner to do Dropshipping (15%)
- What product should I choose (50%)
- Audience & Channels for promotion (20%)
I had to choose between single product vs multi product strategy, now I’m really passionate about gaming and I’m also part of couple communities across multiple Social Media networks. At this point I knew that I want to do around the Gaming Niche and after careful consideration I chose to go for a multi product option.
Here are some tools & Services that I used
More tools and research was done, I might write an article only around that as there is a lot of information there.
As soon as I finished with the implementation of the template and setting up the Social Media accounts, I started setting up the Google Analytics Account, Facebook, Pinterest Pixels all through Google Tag Manager. If you have any challenges here you can always find somebody on Fiverr to do that for you.
Long story short, the website was pushed live and 2 days later I had my first sale, this was most probably somebody from my Social Media accounts or a Gaming Community member. I boosted some posts on Facebook and enabled retargeting on Facebook and Google, the focus at this point was to get visits to build my audience intelligence.
Before starting more seriously with the advertising I did some research around the best performing ads on Facebook and Instagram:
Now, I’m 2 weeks in and my sales jumped to 800 euro, especially after I started advertising on Facebook. By the end of my first month I was close to 3000 euro, and that’s when the problems started.
- Almost none of the packages were delivered by that time
- I received charge backs for about 600 euro
- Bank commission for each fraudulent purchase (4 out of 6 chargebacks)
- Shopify locked the Shopify Payments, had to move to PayPal
- Received request to take products down from my shop as I wasn’t licensed to sell them
- Angry Customers
I kept the shop for another 3 months and I arrived to the conclusion that it’s not worth my time and my health to continue.
This Dropshipping guru’s make money from teaching you how to build your store not from having one.
